Eric Sawyer
West Side of Chicago homeowner
Mr. Eric Sawyer, age 70, is a senior resident of the West Side of Chicago, in the Austin Community Area. He has been in dire need of home repairs for more than two years.
His home suffered severe water damage in the basement due to repeated flooding in the Chicago Area. In the past, he received assistance from FEMA; however, the funding was not sufficient to restore his property to a safe and livable condition.
Mr. Sawyer also needs a new roof on both his house and garage. Whenever there is a storm with strong winds, shingles are blown off the roofs and into his yard requiring him to clean up debris after each storm.
Mr. Sawyer is currently receiving assistance from the City of Chicago, and work is underway on his property. To date, the city has installed a new basement floor and replaced five doors. However, the roof issues have not been addressed.
Mr. Sawyer continue to need assistance to replace the roofs on his house and garage so that his home can be made safe, secure, and weather – resistant, but has had trouble finding programs that provide funding for this extensive work.
