Charles Edwards, age 74, and Vickie Edwards 71, are seniors with disabilities who reside in their home in Riverdale, Illinois, since 1996.

Their home is in urgent need of critical repairs, particularly basement waterproofing. For many years, the basement has flooded during periods of heavy rainfall, creating ongoing concerns about water damage, structural issues, and the potential growth of mold and mildew, which may pose health risks.

In addition, the roof is leaking and requires repair or replacement.  Mr. & Mrs. Edwards have been reluctant to file an insurance claim because they previously experienced cancellation of coverage by a major insurance company after submitting claims, leaving them concerned about the possibility of losing insurance coverage again.

Due to their age and disabilities, Mr. & Mrs. Edwards would also greatly benefit from the installation of walk-in showers to improve accessibility and safety within their home and reduce the risk of falls.

They have sought assistance by contacting the village, township, and several nonprofit organizations.  Although they have been placed on waiting lists for various assistance programs, they have not yet received the help needed.  Because they live on a limited income and face significant financial challenges, they are unable to qualify for or afford a home improvement loan.

Mr. & Mrs. Edwards are seeking assistance to address these urgent home repair and accessibility needs so they can continue living safely and independently in the home they have occupied for nearly 30 years.
