Springfield Home Repair Town Hall Set for October 4, 2025 fix our homes illinois news updates

A Springfield home repair town hall is coming this fall, and we need action now. As we ramp up toward 2026, our coalition will hold a town hall featuring older homeowners from the Springfield area. Their stories will spotlight unmet home repair needs for low-income seniors throughout Illinois.

  • Date: Saturday, October 4, 2025

  • Time: Noon

  • Location: Lincoln Library, 326 S. 7th Street, Springfield

Older homeowners will share firsthand what it's like to live with repairs they can't afford. The event will also feature information sharing on home repair resources. State legislators from the area will be invited to listen and learn.

Building a Statewide Home Repair Infrastructure

Our goal is to introduce and adopt a centralized, easy-to-access home repair infrastructure in Illinois in 2026. It would serve low-income senior homeowners living in single-family homes. It would also serve those who own and live in two- to four-unit buildings.

Our coalition, founded in 2023, brings together organizations that serve older people through home repair, policy advocacy, and research. Older people are also part of the coalition. Housing Opportunities and Maintenance for the Elderly (H.O.M.E.) in Chicago coordinates the work.
