Cheryl King's Story: Home Repair on Chicago's West Side

West Side of Chicago | Age 75

Cheryl King has called her West Side home since 1963. She inherited the house from her grandmother, and it has anchored her family for more than 60 years.

Today, the house needs repairs she can't afford. Its windows are deteriorating, and its front porch needs to be repaired or rebuilt.

Ms. King still works and collects Social Security, but her income doesn't stretch far enough to cover the cost. She has sought help from city and state programs and come up empty.

A statewide home repair program would help homeowners like Ms. King keep the homes their families built.
